The NWHSU story through video

Remember this? It's from my Lights. Camera. Action! post (go check it out after you read this)

I get asked a lot if I do video. Here's the problem with that question; no one just "does video". It's the equivalent of asking an Accountant if they do taxes. Video is too broad a term to ask that kind of question. Do you mean long or short? An ad? An editorial? A testimonial? A podcast? Animated? Are you asking me if I write the script? Am I behind the camera? Am tackling the hours of editing and post? A better question would be to ask me about my familiarity with video, my experience with the medium, what kinds of videos I've been involved with, and most importantly what my role has been with video.

So let's start with that instead.

I have extensive familiarity and experience with video. I've never had the opportunity to have a large video budget, so my experience has been making the most with the budget I had. What I've found is that the videos were as successful as large budget productions because of my ability to tell the story. Let's back track a bit first. When I was doing videos at Jostens, I was doing a bit of everything. I was concepting, co-writing the script, had time behind the camera, worked on editing and post production and I was choosing the music. I had to cut my teeth doing it all, so that I knew what to do as the Creative Director. Since then, I've had the opportunity to work with amazingly talented teams of writers, videographers and post productionists. I'm still in there getting may hands a little dirty, but have found the enjoyment and thrill of seeing my vision and concept come to life as the person overseing .the project. Getting my hands dirty? Yeah, I'm still doing some initial writing, on set and collaborating with the videographer, sitting with the post productionist to decide what stays and what goes, listening to lots of music to find just the right track, and designing supporting graphics. In the end, I am proud of the videos and so thankful to the teams I work with.

Visit the NWHSU YouTube channel and watch some or all of our videos. Whether it's Coffee with the President, a Student Story, a Deep Dive into our College of Chiropractic, a Virtual Tour or our Life in the Twin Cities series, you are going to get a great story and a great video experience.

And after you get back from watching all those, here are a few other of my favs.
