Taking Saint Mary's to the Next Level
When I started at Saint Mary's, our collateral was good, but it wasn't great. I spent my first year getting our toolbox filled up (we needed a serif, script and slab/display font, graphic elements and a secondary color pallet). I also spent the year learning about my product; the university. During this time, I talked to staff and faculty and students. I explored collateral from other colleges and universities. What I learned from my growth year was we needed to push beyond the expected and be a leader, not a follower. One of the areas we were stalling in was participation in our conferences and events. Our Missing Voices Conference was an excellent opportunity to make that first impact statement. On the left is last year's folder (I had just started and it was my first larger project, so I only tweaked the previous year's look). On the right is this year's folder. The response from participants was incredible. They loved the bold graphic look of our conference materials and repeatedly said it was not what they expected. Everyone said they'd be back next year and would be spreading the word about the conference. Mission accomplished.
