How Do You Stand Out in a Crowd?
That's what I ask myself every day. The higher ed world is ultra competitive and Saint Mary's is competing for the same students as hundreds of other colleges. When I started at Saint Mary's,
I looked at and studied boxes of direct mail that my kids had received and had been collected by
my co-workers. It was a sea of boredom. Everyone was doing the same thing.
I talked to my college age kids and their friends and asked them if they wanted something that was interactive and engaging...and, different. The overwhelming response was "Yes. PLEASE!"
For this Junior "Location" piece, I worked closely with my print rep to figure out how to execute my concept; make a poster of our logo mailable. The final solution is brilliant! His team was able to fold our logo down to a standard mailer size. The piece is closed with glue dots to make the piece easy to open and to keep it from tearing. Our brand is once again placed in front of potential students with a simple, interactive and engaging piece that gives them an immediate look at life in Winona, Minnesota, where Saint Mary's is located. The best part is they get a cool poster that is different than what other schools would send them. This piece has been very popular as the Admission department saw an immediate spike in visit requests via the snap code we used.
