It's in the Details II

Details are important and you have to be aware of them. It drives me nuts when the sports blogs and sites out there rank helmets and always rank the Packers as a top helmet because of the claim that it's "a classic that has gone unchanged in it's history". That's simply not true! If you are ranking helmets, how can you not know that the helmet has been watered down since the 70's and is a shell of its former self. I'm not a Packers fan, but the helmet used to be awesome. The logo was designed by Lombardi himself to be a G in the shape of a football. I feel it was a brilliant logo and was well done. It was introduced at a time when there weren't many teams that had logos on their helmets yet. TV was taking over though and teams saw they needed them on the helmet. This is a great side-by-side to show the huge difference between the original classic and the boring, watered down current version. Also, note that the classic helmet had a grey facemask and deeper yellow and green colors than the current helmet.
